Spirited Away
Well, I'm back home and in front of the TV on the couch while dad's snoring away on the next couch, so I thought now would be a good time to finally upload those graduation pics. It's mostly me with my family looking awkward but snappy in the robes.

Very large photos behind me. More awkward than large.Collapse )

Seriously, that's my range of smiles in photos. Smug weirdo or serial killer glee. The graduation photographer really wasn't happy about it and kept trying to get me to show my teeth, which was just never going to happen. That photo also includes my family. I guarantee it's going to look like something from the Addams Family.

Happy non-denominational holiday fun fest!

Doctor Who
I'll write a longer, sappier and more pretentious post for my 2011 summary but for now, I shall simply say that I wish all of you a very merry Christmas. I shall never be able to repay you all for everything you've done, especially regarding the whining and pathetic existential crises of confidence that have made up the vast majority of this year's entries. You're all so lovely and I love & appreciate every single comment I've received from you all. Those kind words and bags of humour, support and love have meant the world to me.

So to give you all a laugh, here's a photo of me during Xmas 1995. Ah, that fringe.

I can't sleep, I'm too emotional and I'm resisting the temptation to read the remaining 5 mini-cakes in the box next to my bed. I need a distraction and The Hollywood Reporter gave me one (no, I'm not in this one.) The serious lack of women in directorial positions in film is of no big surprise to me or anyone else. Even this year, where we have a brilliant selection of women directing films, is evidence of the studio system being run primarily by straight white guys, with women directors taking to the indie route to get their films made. The Hollywood Reporter's round-table of directors this year featured no women and when the topic was brought up, most danced around the subject. So, to save my twitter followers from the pain of my spamming, I've decided to put together some videos, pictures and facts on female directors. I hope you enjoy it. Please comment with further facts and people I may have left out!

Pretty picspam ahead!Collapse )

I just know I've forgotten some big name female director in this entry so please feel free to contribute with your favourites. I'd love to hear some opinions on the state of the film industry in terms of gender politics, be it the people making the films or the content they present.

Feet are friends, not food!

QI Stephen
Exams are over! And what better way to celebrate than to have a fish pedicure with friends?

Me, Sam, Amy, Claire and Stephen (woo hoo for our lovely token dude) grabbed a quick lunch, wherein we spent an inordinate amount of time discussing family injuries, then went to the fish feet place for a truly unique experience. There was much giggling, much squeamishness and a lot of laughs. Claire didn't enjoy it as much as we did. It's a strange feeling - it's like pins and needles but more ticklish, yet strangely relaxing once you get used to it. My feet weren't quite baby's bun smooth afterwards but I had a lot of fun.

Now, photos!

I kindly left out the picture of my friend Claire looking a teeny bit hysterical.Collapse )

I would definitely recommend you try it at least once. It's a conversation starter, if nothing else!

My very first protest...

I was there a grand total of an hour, I didn't do or say much and I fell one my arse once.

It was glorious.

"They say cut back, we say fight back!"Collapse )So how was it all? I may not have done much in comparison to others but it felt good to be a part of something where my voice was being heard, even if it was my voice in a crowd of people crying out "Nick Clegg, we know you, you're a fucking Tory too!" I think the tuition fees protests are a great thing, the start of a political movement amongst a generation where common assumption sees us as a bunch of apathetic slackers. As one sign so eloquently put it - "Nick Clegg, it's not just about money, you patronising git!" It's about not wanting education to become a marker of the elite, those who can pay for it. It's about giving what should be a basic human right to everyone. In a time of serious economic decline, where unemployment is high (especially in Scotland where it's higher than the national average) and the working class are going to be hit the hardest, we need to invest in education, not take away from it. Seeing the protestors around the UK being kettled, beaten down and generally treated like scum is terrifying but goes to show how cowardly the coalition is. I hope I can do more to help this cause in the future, snow or no snow.

Dumping everything here at once.

Mock the Week

A bunch of stuff, exciting and otherwise, has happened this week so I thought I'd dump it all into one LJ post for my convenience.

On Tuesday I went through to Edinburgh for the day to meet up with Nat and a bunch of people from the same net forum I met him on for the official Scottish meet up. I was expecting it to be a horribly awkward affair that would be over in a couple of hours but we ended up having so much fun that I had to stay at Nat's flat for the night as it went on so late. I love Nat to pieces but fuck, that couch was not comfortable. The next day the heavens opened and I had to take two buses to get home so partnered with my travel sickness, lack of food and general fatigue, I was soaked to the skin and freezing. Huzzah for the Scottish summer. We did have a nice one for about a fortnight which was nice but in typical fashion I moaned about the heat. I am never satisfied with the weather. It's a gift.

So random stuff now:

My dog Ozzy in his jacket. He loathes wearing the thing but it keeps him warm in this horrible weather.

The lovely, amazing, perfect and ever so kind anneloes4  bought me Night Work, the latest Scissor Sisters album, for my birthday and I recommend you all go out and buy it. It's fantastic and completely worth the wait. Here are some YouTube links to some songs from the albums.

The latest Made of Fail podcast was an Eclipse special which features a wonderful game of "Horrify the Twilight noob." with some help from cleolinda  You should all subscribe and listen to their show so here's the link to the community with theEclipse podcast.

I am currently halfway through book 5 for the Sparkle Project (guess which one won the vote?) and I don't want to spoil anything for the actual write up but man... I can see why people were so enthusiastic about me reading this book.

I'll leave it there for now. I am not sure when part 5 of the Project will be up because I'm going to the cinema tomorrow to see Inception with my gran. I can say it won't be later than next week, then I'll move onto part 6, Shiver. If nothing else, this entire project did give me the motivation to start writing my own book which is 10000 words long right now and packed full of in jokes, snarking, scheming horses, Disney jokes and a fairy godfather named Steve! Suck it sparkledick!

The seven days meme - part 2!

day 01 | a song day
day 02 | a picture
day 03 | a book/ebook/fanfic
day 04 | a site
day 05 | a youtube clip
day 06 | a quote
day 07 | whatever tickles your fancy

What's this I see? An excuse to post pictures I couldn't be arsed to upload earlier? Shall I take this opportunity? You bet I will!

Boobs inside.Collapse )

Aug. 29th, 2009

I'm still sorting through the Ed Fest pics (jeez, my boobs are out in almost all of them! I may have accidentally flashed the Impro Chums!) but to tide you over and amuse you all, here is me and 1 day old Baby Lewis. Notice the terror on my face from fear of dropping him. and my banging nail polish.

What is it about this kid that turns me into a dribbling moron?Collapse )
...and the fact that Liz is coming up to stay with me during the excitement and we're going to see Paul Merton's Impro Chums, here are some pics from last year's amazing day chatting up actors, hugging kangaroos and having stalker t-shirts made!
